I first heard about Matthew West from my daughter Laura when I told her about my idea for a music project about sexual purity and she blurted, "I've got the perfect song for you! It's by Matthew West!"
"So who's Matthew West?"
"He's really hot out there on the radio with his first CD, and I love it! I think he'll stay big for a long time."
I was immediately intrigued. Like anyone else, I'm always up to catch the hottest new group or song. "Well, okay, let's hear the song then," I said, leaning forward in my seat.
Matthew had me from the opening guitar blast. "Crank it up, Laura!" I said, grinning big. What a song!
The Lie was indeed the perfect song to kick off the project, and it has never budged from its leadoff position as Track 1 from the beginning, in spite of the countless song changes, lineup changes and course changes I've made over the past three years. The pure rock power of this song is so strong and the message so clean it just has to be heard, and while I've never actually met Matthew West, I know he feels the same way.
When Matthew was first contacted about making the song available for the project, he replied, "That's amazing! I've just been praying recently that God would open the door to get this song out there on a wider basis. The message is so important to me!"
Obviously, I don't have to meet Matthew West to know that we both have the same heart when it comes to sexual purity. So, thanks for the song, Matthew. And thanks for the head's up, Laura!
